Therapy for Moms
San Diego, CA 92128
Do you find yourself worrying that you’re not being the best mom for your child?
Are you riddled with guilt from finding that motherhood isn’t bringing you the joys you hoped for, and instead is a major source of stress?
It can be hard to talk to other moms or your significant other about what you’re going through. You often think they are handling parenthood better than you are, which leads you to feeling shame about not relishing in the joys of motherhood. So you have to put on a happy face (or happy emojis) and continue to drown in your guilt.
As a mom myself, I can relate. There have been times that I’m not the mom I dreamed of being to my boys and I’ve had to overcome the guilt trap. I’ve had to re-think and re-work what motherhood means to me and redefine what makes a “good mom”. There is no one size fits all when it comes to motherhood; and I work closely with moms to identify what fits for their definition of motherhood.
I believe we're all doing the best we can with the tools and resources we have. My job is to guide you in developing additional tools & resources when needed and to clean off the rust from your current ones. We can all use some sharpening of our tools from time to time. I think of therapy as a resource available to help with this process. Deciding to begin therapy isn't a sign of failure, but instead a sign of courage in accessing a resource to help you be the best version of yourself. Using evidence-based strategies along with my own experiences; I can guide you in getting unstuck from the never-ending cycle of feeling you’re not good enough and that you just don’t measure up.
If you continue to allow guilt and shame to eat away at you, you will end up feeling overwhelmed and anxious. That can help but impact your relationship with your children.
Children have a greater occurrence of anxiety and depression today. As moms if we maintain this path towards overwhelm and anxiety in ourselves, then we may have more to worry about and more guilt in dealing with the anxiety and depression in our children.
Let me help you by throwing out a lifesaver and helping you hang on until you feel strong enough that you can handle things without feeling like you're drowning again.
